Accident Recovery and Police Towing Services

When you are involved in a motor vehicle collision, the last thing you need to worry about is your car.  The health and well being of you and your passengers are much more important than the hunk of smashed metal you were traveling in.

Below we provide a few things to consider when you become involved in a car accident.

Move out of the flow of traffic

If you’re ever involved in a car crash we suggest that, if possible, move your vehicle out of the flow of traffic. Doing so will help to avoid any further collisions and potential loss of life to passing motorists and those involved in the collision.

Assess the well being of yourself and passengers

After your car is out of the flow of traffic, the next step is to assess the well being of yourself and your passengers. Although you may not be an EMT you can still assess if there are any potential life-threatening injuries.

Provide the 911 dispatcher with your location

Once you know if everyone is ok, the next step is to determine your location.  When you call 911 they will need as precise a location as you can give them.  Which way are you traveling? North? East? West? South? What road are you on and what is the nearest cross-street.

Knowing if there are any injuries and your precise location, and then providing it to the 911 dispatcher can help to expedite their arrival and bring an end to the chaos.

Request a towing company to respond

While you are on the phone we suggest that you tell the 911 dispatcher which towing company you would like to respond to the accident scene. In most instances, you are within your legal rights to determine which towing company responds and tows your car.

There are many reasons why you might need the assistance of law enforcement when your vehicle needs a tow. One of which we’ve already written about, a motor vehicle collision. Another reason you may want to involve the assistance of the police is when you have slid off the road due to icy or wet pavement. Calling 911 when your car is down an embankment is a good idea for a number of reasons. One of which is ensuring that help arrives in the form of a tow truck operator to extricate your vehicle from its precarious position. Another reason for calling law enforcement is to alert them to the hazardous road conditions that exist.

Did you know that Fred Birchmore was the first man to bicycle around the world? Yes, it’s true. Fred was an Athen’s Georgia native who “accidentally” biked around the world.  As Fred’s obituary reads, he went to college in Cologne, Germany, and, during a semester break with fellow students, he found himself cycling throughout other countries.  On one tour into Egypt, Fred’s travel papers were stolen and he was unable to return to school in Germany in time for class to begin.  This bad fortune caused him to set out on a bicycle tour around the world.

When you’re down and seemingly out, and your car isn’t running properly or you’ve been involved in an accident, try and do what Athens native Fred Birchmore did. No, we’re not suggesting that you bike around the world, we’re saying simply pick up the phone and call HPC Auto Towing. Rather than letting bad fortune ruin your day, call us for all your police towing emergencies.
